Hassan: MLA S. Lingesh has suggested that ragi and paddy should be procured so that there are no loopholes in the procurement centre.
He was speaking after inaugurating a ragi and paddy procurement centre at the APMC premises. “When the crop is not getting the required price, the Government fixes the support price and buys the crop,” he said. Adding that no such incident should take place this time such as incidents of farmer produce being purchased from middlemen and thereafter harassing farmers for money. He told the officials that arrangements should be put in place without mentioning unnecessary problems and that farmers should not be harassed at any cost. He added that the officials should make arrangements to support them and that farmers should not be made to wander for any reason.
Sani, an Official of the Procurement Centre, said ragi was being purchased at a support price of Rs. 3,578 and 2252 farmers had already registered to give 32,302 quintals of ragi. He said that the support price has been fixed at Rs. 2,040 for normal paddy and Rs. 2,050 for grade paddy and 24 farmers have come forward to provide 2,580 quintals of paddy, he added.
