Notice to monitor potato seed supply to avoid problems

Hassan: Since it has already rained in the district, the activities of preparing the land for sowing have started and the district collector MS Archana has instructed the officials to ensure that there is no problem in the seed supply of potato sowing.
He held a pre-well meeting regarding potato sowing seed supply and price fixing in the Collectorate office hall and instructed to monitor the interests of the farmers.
The district collector said that quality level sowing seeds should be supplied and after that they should be distributed and the farmers should be given appropriate information about seed treatment and made aware.
He directed to ensure that no artificial scarcity is created in the supply of sowing seeds and to control the sale of poor quality seeds.
He told the officials to ensure that the quality of seed potatoes stored in cold storage does not deteriorate.
Prabhuraj, deputy director of horticulture department, spoke and gave information about the current situation as it was in the previous year and the estimated stock available for sowing.
He said that in the current season seed potatoes are priced at Rs 1500 to Rs 1600 per quintal.
In a meeting held at the Collector’s office, after listening to the opinions of the officials and traders, the Collector MS Archana has fixed this price after reviewing all the market price maintenance costs.
Collector instructed to start sale of sowing potatoes after May 12.
Ravi, Senior Assistant Director, Horticulture Department, Mr. Hari, Head of Agricultural Product Marketing gave their opinion.
Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary (Development) Basari Gidada, President of Potato Traders Association Gopal, Somanahalli Kaval Horticulture Research Center Scientist Mahesh YS and others were present in the meeting.
