Hassan: Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Doddakere in Karagunda Gram Panchayat, Araseekere Taluk of Hassan District has been developed under the Amrita Sarovar Scheme.
Karagunda lake has an area of 25 acres with a history of about 150 years. Due to the lack of rainfall for about 10 years, the water storage in Karagunda Lake has decreased, thorny plants have grown all over the lake, and the lake has become empty as there is no development.
For the commemoration of the 75th Independence Amrita Mahotsav, the development of lakes under the Amrita Sarovar Project was initiated by the Prime Minister, and accordingly, the lake of Karagunda village was developed at a cost of about 30 lakh rupees under the Amrita Sarovar Project.
All the thorn trees that have grown in the lake have been removed and the canals through which the water flows into the lake have been developed and revetment has been built around the surface of the lake. A viewpoint has also been constructed for the lake which has enhanced its beauty of the lake. Due to good rains last year, water flowed into the lake and filled the lake, which benefited the farmers. As the lake is full of water throughout the year, the borewells are refilled and the groundwater level has also risen.
