Araseekere: MLA KM Sivalinge Gowda expressed outrage that the government is turning a blind eye to the situation in the country where capitalists fix the price of crops grown by farmers.
Participating in the inauguration ceremony of the coconut purchase centre through Nafed in the agricultural produce market premises of the city, he said that coconut and coconut are important crops in more than 40 taluks of Central Karnataka including Araseikere, but due to the lack of scientific price for coconut and coconut in the market, he raised the issue of the difficult situation faced by the coconut growers inside and outside the House. He pointed out that the state government has not given at least 1000 per quintal of coconut as an incentive and with the cooperation of the central government, it is going to buy a coconut at 11750 rupees per quintal, so the coconut farmers will not get the profit as they claim. Farmers will benefit only if they buy at least 15000 support price.
He warned that farmers who come to NAFED to drop coconuts at the purchase centre should not disturb the farmers and buy the coconuts brought by the farmers in accordance with the rules, but if they hear complaints about the purchase, they will not let them go. District Farmers Union Coordinator Boranakappalu Sivalingappa spoke and expressed his appreciation for MLA Sivalingegowda’s work ethic and concern for farmers, who has a mindset of responding to the hardships and losses of farmers along with the all-round development of the constituency.
Secretary of Agriculture Product Marketing Committee Siddharangaswamy, Leader of Farmers Union Thomas, Yalavare Kesavanna, a former member of Municipal Assembly Lokesh, former President of Employees Union Somasekar, and officials of NAfed department and farmers were present in the ceremony.
