Elephant Calf falls into trench dug by farmers

Hassan: In a tragic incident, a baby elephant fell into a trench dug by farmers at Hosakoppal in Sakleshpura Taluk on Monday, Jan 2. On December 29, villagers slammed the Government for digging a trench for elephants in Hosakoppal, alleging that the Government had failed to find a permanent solution to the menace of wild elephants in the Malnad region. On the night of Sunday, January 1, wild elephants attacked and destroyed the farm of one Mahendra of Hosakoppalu Village. The elephants were on their way back to the forest in the wee hours of Sunday when a baby elephant fell into a trench dug by a farmer.
