Belur: An incident took place at night in Surakhodu village where a herd of elephant destroyed a banana and nut plantation and caused a loss of thousands of rupees.
The banana farm of Annappa Shetty and Arun of Arehalli Hobali Surakkodu village in Belur taluk was attacked by an elephant. He had grown bananas in four acres. The fruit had matured and reached the harvest stage. But wild herds have almost destroyed the plantation. The plant was uprooted and the pulp was eaten. More plants were trampled. It is assumed that the elephants came from Arehalli area.
On this occasion, farmer Annappa Shetty said that crops worth lakhs are destroyed every year due to elephant attacks in this part. To find a permanent solution to avoid elephant attacks, Yuvalli forest department officials are counting fish, if you try to inform the officials about this issue, all the officials say that they are in the election work, still the candidates of Belur assembly are spending millions of rupees for the election but no one is coming forward to listen to the plight of those who destroyed the sorghum like us, elephant attacks in Bikkodu Arehalli parts. The villagers of Arehalli Bikkodu have demanded that the concerned authorities should immediately take permanent action to avoid elephant attacks, which has been going on for years today and not yesterday.
