Channarayapatna: Environmentalist Ashok, who participated in the protest on behalf of the Taluk Raitha Sangh, demanded that the trees not be cleared in the APMC premises of the town.
Speaking in the town premises, about 1,000 different species of plants were planted in the APMC premises about 15 years ago with the permission of the agricultural produce market. But a few years ago, after leaving 700 in the market, the remaining 300 trees were tendered to a private individual to build a fruit plant and clear the cattle market trees there.
There, he wrote a letter to the forest department seeking permission to clear 300 trees. Trees should not be cleared in this three acre portion. If any clearance is done, it will affect the livestock and farmers, so the Agricultural Market Committee and local legislators should focus on this. He requested to shift the storage center to another place. In this case, President of Taluk Farmers’ Association CG Ravi said that there is no APMC market in Hassan district in any taluk like the one in the center of town in Hassan district. The death of dead trees in such a convenient market premises is causing a lot of trouble to farmers and cattle. Today, the children of the farmers who have given this place are roaming the streets without rice, but the agricultural produce marketers buy every rake. Today, the businessmen have offered to give this place to private individuals to generate income, so the concerned authorities have warned that if they do not pay attention to this, a fierce struggle will be waged by the farmers’ association and various pro-organizations.
District President Mise Manjanna, Green Sena and State Farmer Taluk President Shivanna, farmer leaders Tyler Kumar, Appaji Gowda, Manjanna, Shettyhalli Srinivas, Chikka Matigatta Swamy and others were present on the occasion.
