Arakalagudu: Folk artist Dr Appagere Thimmaraju insisted that the government should set up a Folklore Development Authority and emphasize the survival of the folk along with the folk text.
He spoke on the second day of the 21st District Kannada Sahitya Sammelna held in the town on Tuesday while presiding over a folk singing and analysis concert.
If folklore is to survive, by including elements related to folklore in the curriculum of schools and colleges, moral lessons should be taught to children from childhood, only then the development of folklore is possible. He said that such a development needs a full-name development authority.
If we do not develop awareness about the people, we cannot lead an enlightened life. Each and every song is close to our life and we have failed to understand it. Retired Principal TS Appaji Gowda analyzed Sojuga’s Suji Malige song presented by singer Vani Nagendra, the idea of people and God is in this song, people see God in everything. In their eyes, everything is marked by divine feeling. Similarly, Madappa’s song is full of preparation, praise and enthusiasm to worship the God he believes in. Even small things are special to people. He said that there are many songs created about Junjaiah, Manteswamy, Siddappaji, and Male Mahadeshwara Swamy.

The sanctity, strength of spirit, and sattvic qualities of women are presented in this song. Suspicion of the husband, the exploitation and violence of the girl is revealed. He said that Sankavva is seen in this song as the leader of women’s struggle in contemporary society.
Dr NC Ravi, who analyzed the song about Manteswami sung by Devananda Varaprasad, said that the Manteswami episode narrates an episode where a mother scolded a monk who came to ask for alms while the mother was milking her cows, and the mother accepted the abuser. Folk poems show us the way of life. We should develop the embracing quality of accepting that value. Monteswamy’s poetry also makes us aware of the steps we should take in life, he said.
